To extend the life of your pieces, never iron or put your bras and delicate pieces in the dryer. PRO TIP | Keep small items such as delicates, socks, and scarves in laundry wash bags to prevent them from finding their way into the washing machine pump – it will be difficult and costly to remove them or they will never be seen again!. This helps secure and better protects the embellishments while prolonging the wearability of your pieces. If you have delicates or garments that include beading, are screen-printed or have embellishments sewn into the fabric, it’s a good idea to turn them inside out before washing to prevent snagging and rubbing on other garments. The rustproof puller measures an impressive 2.8 cm and better assists those with arthritis and it is great for those that find it hard to wrap their fingers around annoying small zippers. We've also included a large metal zip puller, which is easy to grip and provides easy-glide, open and close access. Available in Regular and Large sizes, these premium laundry bags can be used over and over again and provide optimal cleansing of your delicates, garments, linens, manchester, kids toys, pet toys and other items. Kazzi Kovers offers a premium range of 100% Nylon Delicates Wash Bags. Polyester fabrics are the cheapest of the three fabrics and only go so far before you have to replace them, which is not cost-effective. Mesh bags with netted holes are potentially damaging and more likely to get hooked, snagged, pulled or frayed in the wash. Of these, fully enclosed nylon wash bags are recommended as they are more durable, resistant to tears and abrasions and are the preferred fabric to better protect your garments during the agitation of the wash cycle. The most common fabrics for wash bags are mesh, polyester and nylon. In the case of your bras, slower is better because the elastic and any embellishments on the bra benefit from dealing with less stress and less rough and tumble during the wash cycle. The slower the speed, the less abrasion and agitation your delicates and garments are subjected to. | TIP: Washing machine cycles are based on the speed of the wash and spin cycles. Most experts recommend that you hand wash your delicates to significantly extend their life. With such busy lives and catching up on entire seasons of Netflix, you can save time by setting the machine to a COLD wash on a GENTLE CYCLE or delicate cycle as it's the closet setting to hand washing. This ensures the best possible care for laundering your lingerie and other items. It’s important to check the care instructions on the label before washing your delicates. 6 TIPS TO KEEP YOUR DELICATES LOOKING FRESH 1 | Check the care instructions label first Not only do they protect your items from snagging, fraying and tangling in the wash but they are recommended to create a safe barrier between your delicate items and other garments' particularly with the rough and tumble during the wash cycle. We've filtered search results by the number of stars and also identified what customers like most about these specific items, identifying trends when undertaking our qualitative research.Delicates Wash Bags are the simple, effective and flawless way to launder and extend the life of your lingerie, hosiery, swimwear, sensitive fabrics (wool, cotton, lace, silk) and other fine garments in the wash. So in this case, we've relied on verified reviews from retailers. Unfortunately, we don't have an unlimited budget to test the best laundry bags. And if you like to wash expensive materials without visiting the dry cleaners, mesh laundry bags are a must! How we chose these laundry bags If you don't have strong arms to lift a big load, a laundry rucksack can be carried on your back. If you're transporting a large number of clothes to the laundrette, you might find that a laundry bag with reinforced handles will work. This ultimately depends on what you need your laundry bag for. By containing them in these vessels, you can stop them from snagging, ripping, and becoming entangled with other articles. The latter are commonly used to house delicates like underwear, shoes, and silk items. Ones that help carry clothing and laundry bags you can add to the washing machine. You can grab the below mentioned resources from the Wired server. This article will go over the available options for creating such archives for each major OS version. Once the Classic file is compressed, it’s resource fork is preserved, letting you upload to an FTP site or Non-Mac computers safely. The resource fork is used mostly by executables, but every file is able to have a resource fork.įor example, uploading a Classic file or application directly to an FTP site or to a non-Macintosh computer will likely render the data useless.Ī good way to safely transfer Classic files is to first compress them using a resource fork friendly compression utility like DropStuff to create a. For example, a word processing file might store its text in the data fork, while storing any embedded images in the same file’s resource fork. A resource fork stores information in a specific form, containing details such as icon bitmaps, the shapes of windows, definitions of menus and their contents, and application code (machine code). When we deal with old Mac software or files, eg Classic (pre-OS X) there are resource forks to consider. But first, for those not in the know, why even bother? What makes Classic data so fragile? Below is a list of Mac OS versions and architectures and the best Stuffit for them. So I took what Steve talked about on Mac Yak and ran with it. The topic was “How to transfer files between old and new Macs” and got me thinking, how far back can we go to send files between different Macs and OS versions? What really is the best way to package this data to ensure it survives transfers to Windows PC’s, Linux servers over FTP etc? Recently on Mac Yak episode #11 (which unfortunately got horribly mangled by YouTube so it’s not easy to watch) the topic of Classic data preservation and transfer was brought up. Regular activity helps promote a good night's sleep. Keep your bedtime and wake time consistent from day to day, including on weekends. The key often lies in changes to your routine during the day and when you go to bed. No matter what your age, insomnia usually is treatable. Talk to your doctor before you take these, as antihistamines may cause side effects, such as daytime sleepiness, dizziness, confusion, cognitive decline and difficulty urinating, which may be worse in older adults.Įxplore Mayo Clinic studies testing new treatments, interventions and tests as a means to prevent, detect, treat or manage this condition. Nonprescription sleep medications contain antihistamines that can make you drowsy, but they're not intended for regular use. Prescription sleeping pills can have side effects, such as causing daytime grogginess and increasing the risk of falling, or they can be habit-forming, so talk to your doctor about these medications and other possible side effects. Zolpidem (Ambien, Edluar, Intermezzo, Zolpimist).Doctors generally don't recommend relying on prescription sleeping pills for more than a few weeks, but several medications are approved for long-term use. Prescription sleeping pills can help you get to sleep, stay asleep or both. Your doctor may recommend other strategies related to your lifestyle and sleep environment to help you develop habits that promote sound sleep and daytime alertness. Talk to your doctor about recommendations. You can go outside during times of the year when it's light outside in the evenings, or you can use a light box. If you fall asleep too early and then awaken too early, you can use light to push back your internal clock. Also called paradoxical intention, this therapy for learned insomnia is aimed at reducing the worry and anxiety about being able to get to sleep by getting in bed and trying to stay awake rather than expecting to fall asleep. Once your sleep has improved, your time in bed is gradually increased. This therapy decreases the time you spend in bed and avoids daytime naps, causing partial sleep deprivation, which makes you more tired the next night. Practicing these techniques can help you control your breathing, heart rate, muscle tension and mood so that you can relax. Progressive muscle relaxation, biofeedback and breathing exercises are ways to reduce anxiety at bedtime. For example, you might be coached to set a consistent bedtime and wake time and avoid naps, use the bed only for sleep and sex, and leave the bedroom if you can't go to sleep within 20 minutes, only returning when you're sleepy. This method helps remove factors that condition your mind to resist sleep. The behavioral part of CBT-I helps you develop good sleep habits and avoid behaviors that keep you from sleeping well. It may also involve eliminating the cycle that can develop where you worry so much about getting to sleep that you can't fall asleep. It can help you control or eliminate negative thoughts and worries that keep you awake. The cognitive part of CBT-I teaches you to recognize and change beliefs that affect your ability to sleep. Typically, CBT-I is equally or more effective than sleep medications. Cognitive behavioral therapy for insomniaĬognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) can help you control or eliminate negative thoughts and actions that keep you awake and is generally recommended as the first line of treatment for people with insomnia. If these measures don't work, your doctor may recommend cognitive behavioral therapy, medications or both, to help improve relaxation and sleep. Tests are done to monitor and record a variety of body activities while you sleep, including brain waves, breathing, heartbeat, eye movements and body movements.Ĭhanging your sleep habits and addressing any issues that may be associated with insomnia, such as stress, medical conditions or medications, can restore restful sleep for many people. If the cause of your insomnia isn't clear, or you have signs of another sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea or restless legs syndrome, you may need to spend a night at a sleep center. You may also be asked to keep a sleep diary for a couple of weeks. In addition to asking you sleep-related questions, your doctor may have you complete a questionnaire to determine your sleep-wake pattern and your level of daytime sleepiness. Occasionally, a blood test may be done to check for thyroid problems or other conditions that may be associated with poor sleep. If the cause of insomnia is unknown, your doctor may do a physical exam to look for signs of medical problems that may be related to insomnia. Depending on your situation, the diagnosis of insomnia and the search for its cause may include: Six weeks prior to presenting at our center, a transthoracic echo (TTE) showed normal left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) (60-65%) but the right ventricular systolic pressure (RVSP) was 38 mmHg. She had been diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) 6 weeks earlier, and was referred to our center for PAH evaluation. Case 1Ī 45 year-old African American female with seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA) for 8 years presented with intractable nausea, headaches, and dizziness to Emory University hospital in December, 2013. A represents case 1 and B represents case 2. Densitometer tracing of protein electrophoresis of patients’ serum. Paraprotein was not detected in either cases.įigure 1. Immunoglobulins G, A and M were elevated in both cases and both cases were negative for cryoglobulins. Both cases had positive rheumatoid factor and cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies. Plasma viscosity was highest at presentation which was 8.4 for case 1 and 4.3 for case 2. Gamma globulins were higher in case 1 than in case 2 which was paralleled by the plasma viscosity. Figure 1 shows the serum protein electrophoresis at diagnosis of hyperviscosity syndrome for case 1 (Figure 1A) and case 2 (Figure 1B). Resultsīoth patients were African American females. The two cases met the American College of Rheumatology criteria for rheumatoid arthritis. We reviewed charts of two cases of rheumatoid HVS. This study was a prospective non-comparative clinical case series. In plasma cell dyscrasias, serum viscosity of 4-5cp, which corresponds to a serum IgM level of at least 3 g/dL, an IgG level of 4 g/dL, or an IgA level of 6 g/dL, has been associated with development of symptoms. The effectiveness of rituximab in B-cell depletion has been reported in other autoimmune diseases associated with immunoglobulin overproduction such as IgG4-related disease. Rituximab depletes B-cell precursors and mature B cells which express CD20, a cell surface protein, by binding to CD20 and increasing complement-dependent cytotoxicity, inducing antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity by binding Fcy receptor on surface of effector immune cells, and by inducing non-classical apoptosis of B cells by crosslinking of multiple CD20 molecules. Rituximab is a mouse:human chimeric IgG1 anti-CD20 antibody which has been approved for treatment of rheumatoid arthritis by the United States Food and Drug Administration based on a large multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. Therapy that targets pathogenic B lymphocytes in rheumatoid HVS has not been reported previously. Although the first line of treatment of HVSfrom any cause is plasmapheresis, there are no studies to guide maintenance therapy. Only two cases of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) leading to right heart failure have been reported. Congestive heart failure is uncommon in rheumatoid HVS. Patients usually present with non-specific symptoms such as epistaxis, bleeding gums, headaches, confusion, blurry vision, abdominal pain, fatigue, dyspnea, palmar erythema and stroke. The hallmark of HVS is polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia associated with elevated serum viscosity leading to impairment of end organ perfusion. Hyperviscosity syndrome (HVS) is a rare extra-articular manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis with only 22 cases reported in literature. Hyperviscosity syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, pulmonary arterial hypertension Introduction As far as we know, these are the first two cases of rheumatoid HVS which have been treated with rituximab. She was treated with prednisone followed by rituximab infusion. The second case was a post-partum cardiomyopathy which presented with inflammatory polyarthritis and compensated congestive heart failure. The case of pulmonary arterial hypertension was treated with two cycles of plasmapheresis followed by rituximab 1000 mg IV separated by 2 weeks and repeat dosing every 6 months. We report two cases of rheumatoid HVS who presented with either severe pulmonary arterial hypertension or post-partum cardiomyopathy. Rituximab is a powerful B cell depleting therapy which can theoretically eliminate pathogenic B cells and decrease immunoglobulin production in HVS. HVS is characterized by abnormal immunoglobulin production. Although plasmapheresis is effective as the first line treatment in life threatening manifestations such as pulmonary hypertension, stroke, retinal hemorrhages and congestive heart failure, data on effective maintenance immunosuppressive therapy is lacking. Hyperviscosity syndrome (HVS) is a rare manifestation of rheumatoid arthritis with few reported cases. Nocturnal lagophthalmos should be monitored after ptosis surgery regardless of the Bell's phenomenon results. We conclude that poor Bell's phenomenon is not a relative contraindication for ptosis surgery. Other complications were minor and resolved with conservative treatment. One patient had prolonged lagophthalmos and underwent reoperation to lower the eyelid height. All patients achieved satisfactory correction of ptosis. Of the total 23 patients originally considered for study, 9 with frontalis muscle advancement technique, 8 with conjoint fascial sheath suspension, 4 with levator resection technique, and 2 with levator aponeurosis plication technique. We assessed Bell's phenomenon at different stages of sleep and collected data on ptosis degree, surgical approach, lagophthalmos, complications, and outcomes. We conducted a retrospective case series of 23 patients with ptosis and poor Bell's phenomenon who underwent different surgical techniques at Xijing Hospital from April 2020 to June 2021. This study aimed to investigate the role of Bell's phenomenon in ptosis surgery and the management of nocturnal lagophthalmos. However, the Bell's phenomenon may vary in different individuals and sleep stages, making it inaccurate to predict the position of the eye during sleep based on awake examination. Poor Bell's phenomenon is often considered a relative contraindication for ptosis surgery, as it increases the risk of corneal exposure and dry eye symptoms after surgery.
